As somebody who can't afford a TRIH subscription (much as I'd love one), I really appreciate that they chose to make their subscription paywall model "Before anybody else!" (mostly), rather than paywalling the whole lot. Somebody has to pay for all the fantastic animations, but TRIH also have also given away an avalanche of free content and everyone wins.

To the best of my knowledge, this vote by the citizens of Athens in Pnyx to face the Persians in battle is the last time in history that citizens actually vote to go to war. In fact, after they vote, these same people have a few hours to go home to prepare, kiss their families, and go!
Think about this for a minute. It is not a parliament that votes for the army to go to war. It is about 10000 citizens in Pnyx voting themselves to go to war against the superpower of their time. It is incredibly heroic!

Miltiades: “Pheidippides, did you bring Sparta?”
Pheidippides: “Well, not exactly, but I did bring a screaming goat-god.”

This man is such an exceptional narrator. He knows how to perfectly draw out emotion in his narrative.

The beacon system for communication called " the Phryctoriae System " . I hike regularly around Athens . I have seen some of the beacons towers , for example " Phryktoria Tower Loimiko " ,

I was at Olympia recently, and saw the helmets (One Greek the other Persian) from Marathon devoted by Miltiades to Zeus. The Greek helmet had taken a seripus blow to the crown.

A detail to add to the drama of the war council where Miltiades tries to persuade Callimachus with this incredible plea that Herodotus describes. As the council is split, Miltiades turns to Callimachus with the iconic phrase 'Πάταξον με, άκουσον δε' which - still used in modern greek - translates to 'Strike me, but listen to me' or more loosely 'hear me out even if you want to knock me down for saying it'. A direct appeal that goes to show Miltiades' confidence right before a possibly suicide decision, while still acknowledging his sketchy perception among the Athenians. Tremendous rhetoric and a phrase that still survives encapsulating the drama of the battle and its generals.
