The century of Islamic conquest prior to Tours and the conquest of Iberia 20 years earlier makes it hard to argue that the Franks would have considered it a "raid".

I don’t understand the confusion, the entirety of the Arab conquest was a sequence of raids. They kept going until they were stopped.

It absolutely was not a raid it was in line with how they conquered Egypt and Spain. France would have absolutely been next.

In 1565, when Turkish invasion of Malta failed, the universal reaction in Istanbul was: “Malta yok” - “there’s no Malta”. Same with the battle of Tours - “Tours yok”

Tours is 550km north of the Spanish border, so it can hardly be called a "border raid". The Islamic raiders/army were striking into the heart of Frankish lands.

I totally agree with Tom, and others in the comments. Just because the Arabs in the Middle East doesn’t put much weight on Tours doesn’t mean the importance for the Christian’s if the chrine would be sacked
