This is what I did 5 years ago. My family didn't realize how serious I was until they saw me coding at midnight. I isolated myself to grow. I learned a few programming languages, and through that, developed a passion for anything related to IT / cybersecurity. I wouldn't be a sys admin today for a large tech company if I didn't isolate in order to grow.

I disappeared for 6 years. Everyone - friends, relatives etc asking where is she. During this time I went through four surgeries, healed from cancer, finished a degree abroad while working (not full time), learned German to fluency level, and started learning French. I wouldn't recommend to disappear for this long though, I had some things that were not under my control so I had to disappear and deal with them. During this time God was (and is) my best friend.

I did exactly this when I was 19, suicidal, depressed, confused and unsure. I grinded maths just because I could, with no goal but to connect to greatest minds in history, with no profit. Now, 6 years later, I'm decently paid programmer and everything just solved. For me, math was the answer for everything in life

I think the problem for younger generations is how fast things are moving right now; if you disappear for even a day or a week, you can fall behind. You have to be ready to commit to that, and potentially upending your whole life, which is very uncomfortable. I'm working on it myself.
