Stay sober, dispose of your trash properly. Do not argue with or fight anyone. Learn to stay invisible. Maintain yourself and your vehicle. Be smart and live well.

Work vans are full of tools and thus a tempting target for thieves.

I was parked at Walmart in a dark spot when someone pulled up and was about to steal my front right tire. I was about to honk my horn when the guy’s girlfriend saw me and alerted him. As they drove away, I could see they were driving on their spare. People in real need should reach out to churches, thrift stores, facebook, or even sheriff’s office. Don’t steal when you could ask for help.

I was working in a rough neighborhood and took 30 minutes to sleep after working 20 hours straight. I had my feet sticking out the back of the truck bed when two people tried stealing my sneakers off my feet. I woke up and they ran thank God!

4:52 How exactly would I "only drive to my sleeping spot" after I've already crawled in the back?

I'm a retired electrician... and I strongly recommend a 12v electric fence energiser. Your van is on rubber tires!
And there is no excuse for someone touching your van after reasonable hours.... especially if you display an electric fence warning sign from your windscreen! Make sure you only use it at appropriate times, as kids at play or the elderly going about their busines do not deserve it.

I also recommend a small fire extinguisher being kept handy when driving and camping. They work on fires and road raggers!

Work vans are robbed for tools.
Better to be a plain non-descript vehicle and not anything that attracts attention.

we scope out where we're sleeping then ho somewhere we can get ready for bed. when it's nice and dark we pull into our spot and go to sleep. hotels always have worker vans parked out back or on the side, easy to hide with them.

I have a doberman who is very protective. she has saved our bacon and barked viciously at a guy trying to pry my door once already. i'm armed but, it's no good if you're sound asleep.
