Steph Gard gets it!! She understood it's a dream, the dreamlike quality they're evoking at the end. That life is a dream--dreamlike. That's the Doors, that's what they're doing. That's the point of so much of their work, and so much of Morrison's poetry. He was truly a modern shaman.

The best instrumental effort by The Doors since Light My Fire, if not ever. Manzarek lives up to his acclaimed genius on keyboards and it's the finest Robby Krieger guitar solo I know. The groove, mystical atmosphere andl lyrical imagery are all A+ Doors. It's hard to pick a best song from this band, which created a very diverse catalog of music in just five years, but Riders on the Storm should be in the conversation.

I believe this song and performance show the greatness of Ray Manzarek on keyboards, while he is still underrated.

Morrison was a walking corpse by the time they cut this track. Ray's keyboards save the day, as they do throughout their final album. The lyrics about a murderous hitchhiker are based on the unfinished film HWY that was going to be Morrison's film debut.
