  As a kid in the 80s, Ozzie made the highlight reel every single night like clockwork-- if you didn't see an Ozzie play, you assumed the Cardinals were off that day.

  I tried playing like Ozzie when I was younger. I played SS after begging for the position, tried to hit line drives and steal bases, and most of all, to be a defensive wizard. As an adult, I was 6&apos;6 and 280 lbs though. I probably would have been better off trying to play first and hit for power, even though I did manage to still play shortstop through most of high school even at 6&apos;6<br><br>Fun fact: between high school, college, and adult baseball until I turned 40, I stole 1 single base the whole time 😂

  As a 42 year old Cubs fan, I remember watching Ozzie play clearly. As much as I was supposed to hate the Cards, I loved Ozzie, who was second only to Ryne Sandberg.

  A lot of restaurants in St. Louis would frame their checks that Ozzie wrote them because it was worth more to them to hang it on the wall than to cash it and have it bounce. Ozzie should have been eating free anyway. Love that guy!

  That was the GREATEST defensive play of all time. I&apos;ve followed MLB since 1968, seen dozens of amazing plays but can&apos;t remember anything more amazing than that play. I still get chills when I see video of that moment. Thanks for breaking the play down. You offered a lot of thoughts I&apos;d never thought of.

  The team was relocated to Richland Washington, so the same state as the Walla Walla Padres.

  Wow that quote at <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CwjsCJ5FbGw&amp;t=1549">25:49</a> was way ahead of its time. Baseball is up there with hockey as the sport with the highest variance game to game, just by its very nature. A 7 game series is hardly sufficient to say a team is “better” than the other, but like Ozzie says, it’s whichever team is more opportunistic.<br><br>Great video, as a Padres fan it’s another painful reminder of the history of the team up until Tony Gwynn graced us with his existence.
