I like that you show glimpses of your children without invading their privacy. Very tastefully done.

We use to do things with community, example when my mom was killed at harvest time our neighbours came to our farm and finished our harvesting, the wives of these farmers cooked then meals that were needed. Still makes me tear up as to how wonderful and giving these neighbours were and I will never forget them

I got this recipe from a German lady 50 years ago and have been making it ever since. Eleven to 12 cups applesauce, 6 cups sugar, 1 cup apple cider vinegar, 4 teaspoons cinnamon, 3 teaspoons cloves, 1 teaspoon allspice. Place uncovered in a preheated oven at 300 degrees for three hours. Stir every hour. Place in jars and water bath can for 15 minutes.

Congratulations on such a successful apple preservation day! 49 quarts of applesauce, plus your first-ever apple butter—that's so impressive. But I have to say, my favorite part of the whole video was your reflection at the end (around 17:49) on the importance of community over pure self-sufficiency. That was such a powerful, balanced, and realistic message. It's so wonderful that you support your local farmers and build those relationships. Thank you for sharing not just your hard work and recipes, but your deep life philosophies as well.

We have five pear trees that are about 80 years old.
My parents bought this property because of the trees they were in full bloom and my mom said those are some kind of fruit trees.
We have been here since 1983 and have never sprayed the trees with anything and we have never had much of a bug problem.
We have been making pear butter for a long time and I love it .

You may already be aware of the process, but I just invested in a steam juicer. I made apple juice and then ran the steamed apples in my food mill for sauce. 2 for 1!

4:26 One small safety note: apple seeds contain amygdalin, which can release cyanide when the seeds are crushed. A few seeds aren’t a concern, and this type of applesauce strainer usually ejects them intact. But if you’re using a masticating or centrifugal juicer that may grind the seeds, it’s a good idea to core the apples first when processing a large batch.
