  There will never be another Pokémon rival quite like Paul. Not only was he a strong trainer, he also challenged Ash on a philosophical level. And let&apos;s not forget the role Infernape played in their rivalry. This made every battle between them emotionally engaging. There&apos;s a reason why their final battle at the Sinnoh league is considered one of the anime&apos;s best battles.

  One thing I like about Paul vs Brandon is how Brandon reacts to Paul&apos;s baggage. The battle starts with Brandon being reactive, waiting to see Paul&apos;s moves before countering appropriately. Then, after learning that Paul is challenging him out of a grudge instead of a drive to get stronger or spirit of competition, he starts getting more offensive. His Pokémon sweep Paul&apos;s team at a faster rate, and in a more one sided fashion. It&apos;s almost like he wants to draw out all that anger and frustration that has driven Paul to this point, so he can learn and move forward with a refreshed mindset.

  When Professor Oak said Paul being asked to become a Gym leader, I felt like Paul would fit the role of Battle Frontier Brain so much better.

  Yeah paul is definitely the best written rival. I actually wonder how he got elekid. Not a huge deal but i always been curious. Maybe when he was in johto.
