The fact Jerry Mathers, a rich famous kid that was set for life, made it a priority to serve in the United States military makes me have a huge amount of respect for him.

I was Barbara Billingsley's mailman, in Malibu...early 80's....She lived next to the Malibu Pier...on PCH...Had a package for her one day,,,she answered the door wearing only a towel,, ,said she was in the shower....I said, in my Eddie voice,,,"You look lovely today, Mrs. Cleaver"....... thankfully ,,she laughed.....

It was on when I was a kid, and I grew up in an alcoholic household, the show really gave me hope things can be better.

Although it is often viewed as simply a light, airy comedy, it occasionally addressed very serious social issues. For example, I remember a show which addressed ALCOHOLISM. A handyman, who Beaver adored, got drunk on the job and Beaver's parents explained to Beaver what alcoholism was. The show did not disparage alcoholics. Rather, it conveyed the message that they needed help.
