Suffering doesn’t make people good. It just makes them suffer.

What was ground breaking for me is realizing that not everyone deserves my respect. People deserve basic dignity and consideration as a human but not automatically respect- which is really giving someone high esteem and special regard. Not everyone deserves my respect

I would like to see every woman realize that obedience and self-respect are direct opposites.

To quote tumblr user Autistic Abby: <br><br>"Sometimes people use “respect” to mean “treating someone like a person” and sometimes they use “respect” to mean “treating someone like an authority”<br><br>and sometimes people who are used to being treated like an authority say “if you won’t respect me I won’t respect you” and they mean “if you won’t treat me like an authority I won’t treat you like a person”"

The single thing that changed my life for the better was realizing that I was the “good girl.” I did everything right. Followed all the rules. And still ended up with nothing. No man. No friends. No money! No car! Too busy being nice. That really woke me up and snapped me out of that fantasy world. I was able to start being myself rather than what people expected from me

Women can be just as misogynistic as men. One way they uphold the patriarchy is shaming women's sexuality, including their own.

The loneliest I’ve ever been was in relationships that were disrespectful towards me, not single. I’m actually quite satisfied putting myself first ☺️

Love telling men im "opting out". It truly throws them off that I have the audacity to not engage with something they presented to me.

As a black woman who is standing her ground, I’m so hurt and tired. I have to be on guard 24/7.

As a child I was “corrected/disciplined” with shame or being humiliated. I tried that tactic with my own children and God convicted me and had to teach me how to raise my children with dignity and guidance. My grown adult children have more respect for me than I ever did for my mom.

The message for me in my family was "Comply or suffer the consequences." And I did not dare to do anything but comply. Many years of struggle down the road, after years of therapy and study, I began to act on my own behalf. And sure enough, my marriage ended and my family of origin cast me out. It's interesting how I am more at peace than ever, but the phrase "sadder, but wiser" also comes to mind. Prioritizing my peace is of the highest value. I get it now.
