The waiter was actually another chef contestant, but he was put out on the floor as a waiter for the night.

a cake tester, for clarification, would be completely useless for a piece of meat. It's literally a metal stick that does what a toothpick would do. A damn spaghetti noodle does what a cake tester can do. What he needed was a thermometer to check temp, not what is basically just a metal toothpick. That's why Gordon brought it up as the reason he was going because he for some reason grabbed a cake tester and stuck it in the steaks.

As others said, Vinny aka the waiter is another contestant who was put out as waiter for the day, and doing sides is the worst contestant ever, so bad and comical people think he was a production plant

Sending raw chicken to a pregnant lady is crazy. Risking killing her and the baby? Killing two stones with one bird, in this case. Horrible

5:21 to be fair, that's Raj Branston, one of the most comically incompetent chefs to ever appear on the show. Not having faith in him is somewhat justified.

0:45 scallops are fine dining and in the french way Gordon serves them they are a good litmus test for chefs who improve and chefs who don't. They cook them in a frying pan and it's very fast so for fine dining you gotta coordinate and get all the food out together. You will see in the beginning of any season the so-called executive chefs with 10 years of experience fucking up the scallops and the ones who actually learn this breeze through scallops late season after practice
