Having the guy from the original Far Cry for that bit shows me that I’ve found my people

As a huge Command and Conquer fan, hearing Cabal in the "future mutant" world was such a cool twist. I wasn't enjoying the game very much, but that made me smile.

27:30 unintentional I'm sure but the way your book icon begins sparkling brightly as soon as bro falls to his death in flames was freaking hysterical

Thanks for the vid! I've been trying to remember this game for a while, saw the end-game levels and was trying to find it off of that alone. Never would have thought it was part of the Lands of Lore series.

That visual mess at 4:47 is the quintessential Lands of Lore III experience distilled. A mess of screen overlays on muddy background with overpixelated, messy enemy sprites.

I side with the tree pummeling you for the wood elf disrespect, mind you!

As a Lands of Lore veteran, I have to say that not everything in this review is accurate regarding fantasy elements. You do get to meet Huline (cat people) in this installment. Mauri, for example, can be found in a tavern. He's the thief from the Guardians of Destiny who offered Luther to obtain the great sword Firestorm from Kityara in exchange for killing Kelsrick (captain of the guard in Huline village). And you get to meet Thomgog in this installment. If you find the late Baccata's manor, you can actually meet his brother Viscosa taking care of Baccata's personal effects.
Furthermore, I strongly advise replaying Guardians of Destiny. The amount of lore that can be discovered from speaking stones and additional conversations is substantial. You can actually get to know why the manual warned about the beast form not being able to get a date, because there is an event for that ;)
And if you go with evil playthrogh instead of delivering bad poetry, Luther will challenge both Belial and Draracle for their godhood. Yes. There are choices in Guardians of Destiny. Plus, there are three difficulty levels. If you choose the hardest difficulty, boss fights will no longer be a breeze. Especially when you face Draracle at the end.

I have a soft spot for Lands of Lore 3 as it's one of the first PC games I ever played (I didn’t have any experience with narrative games so I didn’t think anyhing of jumping in at the 3rd entry in the series); interesting to hear how it comes across to someone already familiar with the others.
Playing it again years later, I've tried a few runs with a single character class which I found a lot more interesting than playing everything at once. Like as a pure thief I had barely any health or magic so I was basically forced into hiding and sniping, and discovered that the humble dagger is by far the best missile weapon in the game (it's the only one that scales damage with your level like melee weapons do). But yeah the damage & health scaling is so obviously broken, there's loads of seemingly-powerful consumables like Guardian Orbs that also end up basically useless by halfway into the game. There's also a hidden sword you can make by using an item from the ice world on the half-repaired mirror, but it's outclassed by Thohan's Greatsword so it doesn’t seem worth the effort. I can only guess that the interaction with Luther was meant to be secret and they overestimated how hard it would be to find, or they ran out of time to hide it properly.
It would have been interesting to see what the game could have been if they'd had time to finish it properly. The first two portal worlds have a bunch of hidden content and areas, and different familiars / guild memberships result in different interactions in the portal worlds. Having the other portal worlds built out to the same scale would have really elevated the latter half of the game.

Was super fun watching you play all of the LoL games. I actually started with this one and went back afterwards. I have to say that the German dub completely fixes the unsympathetic main character and has some of the most memorable character interactions for me. I replayed this plenty of times. Especially Jakel and Goldy are amazing. I still love it, probably because it's a game that nobody talks about but I somehow got really good at 😂 Hopefully we'll get a remaster at some point with fixes.
I love your channel btw. You are doing a great job at highlighting the old gems. Keep it up!

I really like how this game handles character sprite rotations, it uses animations between rotations instead of snapping like all the other 2.5d games out there. I bet each character has a TON of animation sprites because of this though.

Both of these games predate spongebob. So technically, Spongebob is full of Deathkeep and Lands of Lore 3 impressions.
