  At the end in the cemetery his wife didn’t recognize the name on the cross, meaning he had never talked about it in all those years.

  This film is a masterpiece. I went with my grandfather when I was younger to see this. He's only spoken with me one time about the wars he's been through in his 25 year long career in the military and that was directly after we watched this together. He said, "this film does a great job of showing you what it was like, but it's only part of the chaos we endured". That was all he ever said about it, even when I pressed him before he passed. He said , " I don't think I could ever find the words to say what it was like. You can only share it with those who were there, and even then we don't always have the words for it." He's long passed now, but I'll never forget what he said. It was one of the last things I ever got to do with him.

He realized he was going to die from his wounds, so he would rather go out quickly from a morphine overdose than slowly from bleeding.

  Yes Kristin, an amphibious landing is basically a suicide mission for a significant portion of the men sent to storm that particular beach. Military doctrine says that if 5k men are defending the beach, you send in at least 10k to take it because you will lose a chunk of the first wave that lands. That&apos;s why ww2 in particular had so many soldiers die because they landed on beaches in italy, france, and all over the pacific.

  I&apos;ve always loved the fact that it was Reiben, the one who bitched the most about the mission, who was literally sitting on top of Ryan to make sure his ass stayed alive.

  If you haven&apos;t seen the HBO series Band of Brothers It&apos;s a must watch. It&apos;s the follow on to Saving Private Ryan, Tom Hanks and Stephen Spielberg were executive producers. One of the best series ever.

  Saw this in the theater with my WW2 grandfather who stormed the beach. &nbsp;I will NEVER forget his quote. I asked him about the accuracy, and he says &quot;Nope. &nbsp;There are too many adults. &nbsp;We were all teenagers and twenty-somethings. &nbsp;The only adults were officers.&quot;

  As a combat Vet I can tell you on behalf of my brothers and sisters in service that this is the most realistic war movies ever made. Although it&apos;s very triggering, we love the attention to detail that the creators brought to this. I remember when this came out alot of veterans walked out the theater and couldn&apos;t finish the movie.. Great reaction as always ❤❤❤

  My dad was a WWII veteran, and one of the toughest men I&apos;ve known. He cried at the opening of this movie. RIP Dad.

  No one was ready for that landing scene. Spielberg shot it like a documentary.
