  I read the book actually semi-recently. The movies really soften down the edges on Hammond, the dude was an absolute monster in the book.

  The beginning of the Jurassic Park novel where it talks about the private sector getting their hands on experimental and rapidly advancing technology that is outpacing legislation and being used not for any benefit to society, but rather in the commercial sector for the sake of a &quot;speculative market&quot; is so eerily similar to real life that Crichton&apos;s estate could probably sue for plagiarism

  The leitmotif of the Velociraptors in the original Jurassic Park movie is also a clear Dies Irae, a musical motif based on a Gregorian Chant about the Day of Wrath, the moment of the Last Judgment where the righteous are shepherded into Paradise while the sinful are cast into Perdition. The Dies Irae has become musical shorthand associated with death, and has been incorporated into the scores of movies ranging from Poltergeist to The Shining to Star Wars to Lord of the Rings to the Lion King to Home Alone. Williams is no stranger to working with the Dies Irae (he did score both Star Wars and Home Alone from that previous list), and given his intention to create a religious undertone to the score it&apos;s almost certain that he associated the Dies Irae with the Velociraptors as a way of equating them to something like the Greek Furies, elevating them above merely intelligent and deadly predators and to the level of divine agents of retribution for the hubris of the humans that created them.

  I wonder if Spielbergs personal demons about Jaws and desire to be more environmentally conscious led to the casting of Richard Attenborough who had basically been retired as an actor for 15 years when they made Jurrasic Park.<br><br>Listening to this in the background rather than watching it, the sound of his voice is just so reminiscent of his brother.
