She never wrote any of it down. So I did. Three volumes, and a free one to start with. → mulberrystreetmemo.com

My Nonna came to the far southside of Chicago from Calabria in 1896. We lived in a two flat apartment she owned. She and my Nonno owned a news paper stand. They saved money and bought a couple other apartments along with a gas station. She went to mass everyday at St. Anthony's, one of the first Catholic churches in Chicago. We all had a good life and grew up strong because of them.

7/22/26: My Sicilian father was one of five siblings none of whom married Italian. I'm guessing it was because they grew up in St. Albans Queens surrounded by non-Italians.
My mother was English and Irish and she hated to cook. But untrained and with no cookbooks and no TV cooking programs at the time in the 1950's I had a natural talent for cooking and wound up shouldering the responsibility of cooking for the family from the time I was 12.
The other skill which I discovered was in my DNA was lace repair. At 70 in 2016 I moved to a small city in Colorado where I became friends with a woman who owned a vintage clothing store. One day she showed me a black lace designer dress with so many holes in it that it was unsaleable. I looked at it and knew how to repair it -- how? Well, I read in a book called SEEKING SICILY by John Keahey that there were Sicilian lacemakers that the French came to buy in the mid 1800's and weird as it may seem, I knew how to repair that designer lace dress through my DNA. It took 5 hours but when I was finished you could not detect one repair and the dress sold the next day.

My Mom was born in Naples and my Dad's Mom & Dad came from Naples My Mom could always make a great meal out of what ever she had. She was a great cook all her pasta was home made and she made bread every week. One of my cousins said My Aunt Lucy could make a table cloth taste good.
