  The fact that you can be the operator for the emergency line and answer the phone and tell the person who called “that’s normal, not an emergency” is insane to me.

  So many of these stories are the same. A couple of teenagers left in charge, without proper training, and the rides themselves are also being neglected. There needs to be better training, and much more frequent maintenance checks. It's dreadful. I can't imagine how terrible that teenager operating the ride felt. I can bet that their higher ups were telling them not to do an emergency stop unless they absolutely had to, and that's caused them to feel like they have to call someone first. Dreadful!

  The $1000 fine is the detail that genuinely floored me. A 177 foot ride suffered a fatigue failure, a 13-year-old lost her feet, investigators found missing or incomplete maintenance records… and the regulatory penalty was one thousand dollars. I dig into overlooked failures and strange stories like this on my own channel, so I’m fascinated by this stuff and this is exactly why the paperwork matters as much as the accident itself. The cable failed in seconds. The system had been failing long before it snapped. Imagine getting let off with a $1000 fine!

  $1000 fine is a joke. At least she got a settlement that would provide lifetime care for her. I'm guessing the park's insurance paid the fine and settlement though.
