The fishermen not revealing his location was an amazing detail that I never heard about before in this case. Really moving honestly

Other than the stealing part, I really can’t blame the guy

If that dude hated being in society back in 1986 I can't even imagine what he's going think about the state of things in 2025.

In Sweden (Europe) Ludde Rönnberg lived for 60 years in a primitive little wood hut in the forest outside a small town. He moved there in 1948 because he "was going crazy from too much work and wanted to spend more time wood carving" and then he didn't want to be interrupted in his work, so he stayed on. He caught fish and grew potatoes and fetched water from a natural spring. He had no electricity, so he kept warm with a small stove, with sticks he collected in the forest. His main interest were the birds and other animals in the forest. He would go to the town and sit in the street and play his accordion and sing songs he had written himself, and people could donate money in a bucket, which he used to buy bird seeds. He sold booklets with poems he had written, and later he made records. Many visitors came to his little hut and he would talk endlessly and sing and play. Several of his songs were written about and for the birds, and he used to sing to them. Reporters wrote many articles about him and his chosen way of life, and he was also included in a book about people in Sweden with unusual lives ("De Ovanliga"). He was a very kind man, never stressed or hurrying, happy with his beloved birds and his forest life. He passed away in April 2009, 86 years old.

Imagine spending 27 years alone in the woods without speaking to anybody and then being thrown in jail where you're surrounded by hundreds of other people with virtually no privacy for 6 months, it must have been sensory overload. A hellish experience I imagine.

“He’s never been able to explain to reporters why he did it”. No need, we get it. ❤

As someone from Northern Maine, it's hard to describe how unbelievable it is that he survived for one year, let alone 27. I remember hearing about the "hermit" when I was a kid, but no one had seen him at that point so he was literally just a local legend until he was finally caught. Glad to see this episode as it's such an interesting story
