Mckrel over wild rice with a fried egg and soy sauce, sesame oil and seeds, and green onions. The best!

You claimed that the Japanese revolutionised the cooking of oats and then proceeded to describe exactly how the Celtic nations have been using them for a thousand years.

I have every one of the items in my pantry, but this presentation gives me a fresh perspective. Well done. I am 99% plant based, but still used shaved bonito occasionally. I believe there is a wide variety of approaches to preparedness in the US, and increasing thoughtful choices that are about reducing waste, making nutritionally appropriate decisions, and being aware of rotation. It’s not just about purchasing 30+day supply prepackaged buckets to stick in a closet and ignore. I am lucky enough to own a freeze dryer for over a year now, and it has greatly increased healthy choices processed when prices are down. Those foods are mostly rotated just like any others, with a few exceptions set aside for long term. It all boils down to well-thought out planning, which can be accomplished in any culture.

@FrugalJapan You might want to give ElevenLabs a try for the narration. It has pronunciation controls that let you specify how particular Japanese names and terms should be pronounced, rather than leaving an English AI voice to guess from the romaji. That might help with some of the pronunciation issues in the video. Just a thought!

I really like the focus on making a pantry a working system rather than simply accumulating food. Buying what you actually use, rotating it, and reducing waste is a simple way to save money while building preparedness at the same time. Preparedness doesn't have to mean more stuff. It can mean using what you already have wisely. Thank you for the video! Prepared, not scared.

I like smoked mackerel, but it's hard to find. The one in a can I've seen, comes only in tomato sauce (yuck). Any dehydrated mushrooms are awesome, but stored in glass jar should have few spices inside to prevent any "protein surprises" 🤭.
Also, while I can appreciate Japanese ways, there are many Americans who know just as much as you, or more. Not all of them are dumb.

Hi this was an amazing eye opener,
When I cook ramen noodles I do drop x2 eggs into it. I noted that you did not say this.
I like the way you told people with high blood pressure to go easy on the salt products. For my self I do have to try the dryed mushtooms, forgive me for not using the right name. Thankyou from England uk 🇬🇧
