I still remember the first time someone used the word predatory to describe what I was telling them. I viewed the behaviour as very selfish but as I was explaining things to a friend they just straight up said 'thats predatory'.

That word really shifted my view of just how bad things had been. I later stumbled upon a video about adult grooming and again it totally changed my view of what I dealt with.

This wasn't just a selfish person this was a straight up predator that was using my issues in an attempt to groom me.

They always presentes themselves as the solution to all my problems. Once I started to work on my issues they were there at every step telling me that change was impossible and I was wrong about everything.

It's like they actively tried to keep me in a bad mental state so I could be used as ego supply.

I started to feel the subtext of pure contempt towards me. Anytime they were being nice felt like just a tactic to try and regain influence.

I like Karen's thesis of predatory behaviour as a catch all. Too many victims can get bogged down in trying to fit their abuser into one category then feeling one piece might not seem to fit, then doubt themselves. Quicker to just recognise the over arching behaviours. I believe there's been consideration for quite a while on collapsing all cluster B into one category of the diagnostic manuals, so there must be a number of other professionals of the same mind.

I am going to really hand it to you this time, Darren! Destabilization is the topic that pulls together so much for me bridging mere psychological understanding straight into the trauma-informed movement. I am a mass of nerves with all the new changes of awareness and I have been here-to-for unable to see how others are affecting me right at this very moment in a highly predatory way!:hand-pink-waving:

I was of value for thirty year’s while I raised our autistic children. Once they were very successful their daddy claimed them for his own. He is so superior that he did all (very little) the parenting so extraordinary well that the baby maker/child carer could be completely erased.

"Who gets to sit closest to the top." As you say, Darren. This brings up a memory of something that happened to me in high school. I feel like some people stay stuck in adolescent development, and don't mature further into adulthood. As a fifteen year old, I was in a "click" in high school (I'm American) We called them clicks. If you were in the "IN" group, you were "COOL." One day, I was walking next to the leader of the click. One of the other girls pushed me aside, and said, "It's MY TURN TO WALK NEXT TO SHARON." This really happened! I was a bit shocked that it was so important to her. It was that day that I knew I had to let this group go. They didn't pursue me, to my relief!
