  I've never broken a knife, but then I've never used one for a hammer, screwdriver, froe, or anything else it wasn't intended for.

  I've had two knives break. I misused them by loaning them out to dumbasses who broke them in minutes. I'm no longer so stupid as to loan my knives to anyone.

  After middle school, I found summer employment in a small machine shop. The first two things I learned were how to measure and how to sharpen my tools.

  We use a six inch knife in our kitchen that Mom used to say if the knife was left in water in the sink she'd use it on us.  It belonged to her father who died in 1938.  I think it's an Old Hickory knife.  It sure looks like one.  It holds an edge unlike any other.

  As a kid I sharpened my pocket knife all the time.  I wouldn't be happy until I could shave the hair on my the back of my hand.  My Dad would give me his knife to sharpen.  The guys at the branding shoot would use it to castrate the bulls.  The biggest trick I learned on my own was to feel the curl of the blade.  You need to do a couple of strokes on the opposite of the side you just sharpened.  Now that I can afford a honing stone makes it even better.

  I have a number of knives. Had a knife since I was about 8. I&apos;m 72 now. I learned to sharpen early, because I liked to whittle. I learned not to abuse the blade because I couldn&apos;t afford to buy new if I broke it. Stainless is fine, just don&apos;t abuse it. Same with carbon steel. Full tang is great, but plenty of historic knives had stick tangs and lasted a lifetime. A lot of good information in this vid. Also a lot of malarkey. It&apos;s up to us, the listener, to figure out which is which.

  I have a Buck knife I got 49 years ago still works great keeps a great edge.

  I have broken one knife in my lifetime. &nbsp;I learned my lesson early on. &nbsp;I had a nice Case Stockman that my dad had given me. &nbsp;I was around 10 or 11 years old. &nbsp;A friend and I played mumble peg. &nbsp;I threw my knife and it hit a rock, breaking the main blade off. &nbsp;It snapped right at the choil. &nbsp;I was sick..... &nbsp;I still have the knife almost 60 years later and I learned a lifelong lesson!
