  I can confirm that the sand was not raked. They entered this position from over the other side of the dune. This part was shot in a different part of the desert to the more red brown. Also yes the beach scene was a real sun light. <br>I worked on this movie from beginning to end. It has gone to my No1 job taking over from The Dark Knight Rises.

  The Princess Irulan scene has a very evocative colour and exposure spectrum that harks back to very old films. It&apos;s very cool not only because it adds to the sense of mystery, but also because it&apos;s rarely found in today&apos;s film-making language.

  That film stock look goes away because it was used for flashbacks. Note that Paul suddenly looks older and beat up, because he&apos;s been through war.

  Storytelling through lighting is genuinely one of the most fascinating aspects of filmmaking. It&apos;s such an art that I feel like most people can&apos;t see/identify or even do, but they definitely feel it.

  Villenueve has never used the volume and has said that he never will. A lot of the scenes you called CG are actually not CG, but CG-enhanced. It was shot for real; the extras were all there, models were built - as much was done practically as was practical.

  Naw man, my theory regarding film is that we&apos;re seeing Paul&apos;s horrifyingly precise visions of both alternate possibilities and future events. He has basically perfect foresight after all, for all his time at war at least. That&apos;s why I think the shift between &quot;Paul has a vision of Chani releasing the scarf&quot; cutting to no grain in-the-present Paul picks up the scarf will imo be used to cement his powers without having to verbally explain them much more than they already were.

  As good as Parts One and Two looked, I think this is a massive improvement in visual quality. The first movie suffered from some of the problems of the dim and washed-out trend, with some scenes being so dim they were hard to even see... the second movie was brighter and better, but still had some problems with looking washed out. But Part 3 looks great. It&apos;s bright, while still keeping contrast in the dark shadows, while the dark scenes still have bright highlights and backlighting... the colour is more vivid and varied than just the washed-out monochrome look of the first two movies... but it still maintains that stylistic consistency with the first two movies and feels like a higher-quality continuation of that approach that matches the visually iconic style of the series. All it took was increasing the contrast &amp; brightness of the highlights and saturating more vividness with a fuller colour palette... why has this been so rare for the last 20 years?
