Are 'Method Actors' great artists or just egomaniacs?

Morbius is objectively the funniest possible movie to use a super serious intense method acting approach for lmao

I want there to be a biopic for Mr Rogers, where the main actor does all the method acting techniques, and is just the nicest most considerate person to those around him

I'll always remember Anne Hathaway refusing to answer questions as to how she lost weight for her role in Les Mis, because she thought it would do more harm than good. I'm paraphrasing here, but she didn't think any member of the public would have a good reason for wanting to look like a starving woman.

Bill Skarsgard who played Pennywise while making IT apologized to the young cast while filming and rehearsing because he did scare them sometimes. He was respectful.

Oh, I just remembered a story that I (a hobbyist photographer) love about Kate Winslet in Lee, a 2023 movie about model and war photographer, Lee Miller. Miller shot with a particular kind of camera, a twin lens reflex. You have to look down into the camera at waist level to shoot it. There is a technique with this camera where you transform your body into the tripod, bring the camera against your chest, and hold your breath while shooting--to maximize the stillness of the camera. Winslet learned to shoot this way and used it in the film, because she didn't want it to just look like a prop. But someone in sound editing or such wanted to fill up these this odd quiet moments, and inserted breath sounds. When the audio mix was being finalized, Kate Winslet noticed that breathing was edited into those pauses, she went to the editors and informed them of what was going on, convinced them to take the sounds back out, because this is how the real Lee Miller would have shot with the camera.

To that end, Winslet was actually reloading film into the camera and taking pictures with it while shooting the movie, recreating a lot of the historical photographs. Apparently there were exhibitions of Winslet's photographs next to Lee Miller's that inspired them. As someone who shoots with a Rolleiflex from time to time, I think that's really cool.

That poor PA that had to help Jared Leto's pretentious ass to the bathroom during Morbius...

I've often had thoughts about method acting both in general and how it's used to describe the inappropriate behavior of types like Leto, but I'll just say that no method-acting man has ever been accused of being a diva and no woman's poor behavior on set has ever been called method acting. I know you touched on this a bit, but I wanted to highlight it.

The funny thing about Heath ledger is he was never did the method acting thing on The dark Knight set . Everybody who worked with him says that he broke character the moment cut was called and he just start goofing off and laughing and he dropped his accent . Set the whole idea from being a method actor on set was just a myth brougut on by his tragic death

Dustin Hoffman’s idea of method acting also was to slap Meryl Streep across the face filming Kramer versus Kramer so she would look genuinely upset. Like Meryl Streep couldn’t genuinely upset otherwise. Sometimes method acting is just an excuse for someone to be the creep they always wanted to be.

The only reason I know the Machinist exists is because it's that one movie where Christian Bale dramatically lost a lot of weight for
