  I&apos;ve still got my katana I bought a new at Christmas 1981<br>And I&apos;ve got an R100 RS sitting next to it , originally purchased at the end 1976 and I purchased in 1985

  I knew a couple in Tokyo who collected Katanas. They had everything from pocket bikes to the 1100’s. I remember being very impressed.

  All the Japanese manufacturers have built some desirable bikes in their time, and I&apos;ve owned examples from each brand, but if asked to pick the best it&apos;d be Suzuki. At different times I owned an RGV250R, a 1988 GSXR1100R, a 1987 GSXR1100R bored out to 1200cc with a Stage 3 Yoshimura racekit, and a 1969 or &apos;70 T500 500cc two-stroke. The first generation GSXR1100R&apos;s were a particular favourite that are still a serious bike today. They were the FIRST big-bore, over 1000cc, genuine factory race replica motorcycles for public consumption, and subsequently established the category that spawned many legends from every brand, all descended from the GSXR&apos;s. There&apos;s still a bunch of Japanese bikes I&apos;d love to own if I won the lottery, including the Honda CBR1100R &amp; VFR1000R homologation specials, the first generation Yamaha FZR1000R Genesis model, and a Japanese/Italian hybrid in the Bimota SB6R or YB6R. But the Katana is the only one I truly regret never owning, and the first I&apos;d buy if I had the money to burn. From a purely design aesthetic perspective, no other bike had the impact of the Katana when it was launched. It was the most radical departure from all that came before it, and, all that came after that the world has ever seen. And from day one, it just looked tough. Still does.

  Riding 1981 Suzuki Katana 1100 S Z last 16 years, best bang for buck ever, have ridin across Australia and back, plus 130,000 klms.

  Katana handling &amp; stability were horrible AND the bike wanted to kill me each time that I rode on the thing. The Katana was like a supermarket trolley with a dragster engine fitted. And the most marvellous design in the history
