  Yes arguably one can debate lang lang choice of Tempe. However he understands its harmonies though role and I must say I am surprised and impressed since I&apos;ve been able to listen to these only by Gould for the past 65 years. I found this very refreshing and amazed by lang lang and his possibilities.. after all this is not a show off piece. It&apos;s the best Bach has to offer and anyone performing Bach has to be versed in Bach complexity of harmony and mathematics. Bach is my favorite composer. Herein lang lang shows us his true genius.

  What a wonderful, joyous performance! Lang Lang&apos;s interpretation is unashamedly pianistic and much the better for it: why not exploit the full resources of a modern piano instead of trying to reproduce the tonal world of the harpsichord? This is not a version for the purists but, as someone who has about 10 versions of the Goldbergs, this performance is certainly going to be added to the list!

  I have never felt more entranced by Bach&apos;s counterpoint than during Lang Lang&apos;s performance. Each counterpoint is delivered with striking clarity and appropriate volume. Is it magic? No, it is the &nbsp;divine logical structure devised by Bach and executed with flawless perfection by Lang Lang.

  The defining moments of this composition are: the Aria, Variation 25, <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AXSahbTyvB8&amp;t=3926">1:05:26</a>, and the ending Aria da capo. <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AXSahbTyvB8&amp;t=5233">1:27:13</a>.These moments can make or break a pianist. LL is outstanding in these moments, especially in the Variation 25. In 25, <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AXSahbTyvB8&amp;t=3926">1:05:26</a>, he asks the question with thoughtfulness, deep concerns, sincerity, in a very refreshing way. This alone is enough to elevate him to the higher rank.<br>All through the entire performance, he is highly respectful of Bach. It shows his serious commitment to honor Bach. He plays these variations calmly, thoughtfully, without sentimentalizing over them, without trivializing them, with his usual gusto, with wonderful sonority.   I find it funny, sad, strange the way people try and pigeonhole both Bach and Lang Lang. This is the greatest work of innovation ever written. It was written with most choices left to the performer. Any way you play it is the right way. For you that day. Tomorrow may be different. That&apos;s what improvisation is.
