It's weird how this newer generation can't understand why opening credits are valuable and oftentimes simply beautiful to look at. They're an integral part of the film viewing experience and an artistic choice.

There was a time in this country that when you retired from a company after working for them for 30 or 40 years they would give you a gold watch and appreciation for what you did. That feeds into the symbolism around the gold watch. Bruce Willis's character wants to retire Andy wants his gold watch

11:04 reminder this movie is set in LA in the mid 90s, where around the same time there were riots in the wake of the acquittal of Rodney King’s police assailants, not to mention the OJ trial which was around the same time. Race relations were absolutely worse back then.
