Tzass Tam is what happens when the most stereotyped necromancer ever is a power-hungry politician. The clearest example of how the standard necromancer type can actually be made interesting.

My first experience with Szass Tam was when I was a teenager reading the Forgotten Realms Harpers novels back in the 90s. They barely scratched the surface of the depth of his insidious power and I am glad that he remains antagonistic to the whole of reality today 🖤 I absolutely love a genius level villain

I read the Unholy trilogy for Forgotten Realms. Szass Tam is an evil genius. They’ve completely overrun Thay with Undead and they’re cranking out more factory style. He assassinated rival Zulkirs with a certain panache. He was always a few steps ahead of those trying to stop him

I'm literally actively planning a new campaign with Szass Tam as the BBEG, this couldn't have dropped at a better time for me

Good video, as always. Id been curious about Szass Tam since his mention in BG3 but never got around to looking him up so this was great to see pop up in my feed.

Really great video, I have been a big fan of Larloch and Szass Tam for a long time. The plans set out by Tam being defeated don't really matter, he just keeps on going. his relationship with Larloch is a powerful boon for Tam and one of the reasons even with his failures he still comes out in a solid position. My DM played Larloch and Tam really well. I was impressed with the way he brought them to life through roleplaying. One of my favorite gaming sessions honestly, much of the campaign was played one on one with my DM, with larger sessions that brought in the rest of the group for large adventures like raiding Netheril sites for relics. We had done similar things with other players over the course of the campaign, Our Warrior our thief and our Cleric and paladin all did the same sort of thing with stories that were one on one with a DM and then later involved the rest of the party. We all reached level 9 around the same time and built our keeps all in the same area and eventually a city grew up around those settlements, we had a very rich resource in the hex we built in and we became over time a power in our own right in our homebrew campaign world. which was connected to Faerun via Sigil. It was one of the longest campaign we ever played in Dungeons and Dragons spanning BECMI, AD&D 1e and 2e with some aspects of 3.5 brought in towards the end as well (though it did not fit nearly as easily as all the TSR versions of D&D worked together. Great video sir, Lots of fun memories here, I'd love a video breakdown from your perspective about Larloch going back to Netheril a well, someday, but this was very well done and well worth watching. I will recommend this and our channel in general to anyone i know interested in really well done D&D lore.

Running an unapproachable east inspired campaign changed some things around to make it mine. One of the background things is szass reaching diety hold as the god of undead by imprisionong kossuth under the thaymount and siphoning his power. An apprentince i made for him is the bbeg. If the campaign last lovento see my party best up on szass though

What do you use as source material? Which books, or novels do you suggest starting with. Ive read a bunch of FR novels over the decades.
