For as many problems as MK1 has, I think their Johnny is perfect. When I think of Johnny Cage, that’s the version I think of

Johnny is basically a joke character at first
He was supposed to be Jean Claude Van Damme's character from Bloodsport, but since they couldn't they've change it into what is today.
They killed him off in a live action movie. He didn't appear in MK3, until MK Trilogy.
In MK 3D era accentuates his douche bag Hollywood persona, with no real impact to the story, but appeared a lot because people liked him.
But MK 9 onward change things around fkr him, he was still the same, but the difference was he out lived his friends. Thanks to that they expanded on his green powers, that it has the power to slay gods.
And to utilize it's true power was for the sake of others. Unlike his past self who only did it for fame, now he has someone to fight for, his family.
MK1 resets that, and somehow cause him to not have his powers.

as soon as I hear this guy speaking on Marvelous videos, I click next I can't stand his dumb headliner tones. and btw Jhonny cage is not what got us to fall in love with mortal combat. obviously, you never played the original games. though it wasn't any individual character, if it was going to be one it would scorpion.
