  I just never understood the group riding thing. The last thing I’m interested in while riding is an organized, scheduled itinerary, where my route and speed is determined by someone else. Motorcycles are freedom.

  My brain cannot comprehend why anyone would ever want to ride with other people. For me, the best aspects of riding are to head up a road I've never been on just to see what's there, to stop when I feel like stopping, to sit for a while in the grass along the roadside somewhere, the joy of seeing zero signal bars on my phone (which stays in my pocket anyway), and to just feel small under a big sky amongst an expansive open landscape. The last thing I would want is some other human there to interupt any of that.

  I don't even go to cafes I take a flask and packed lunch, complete alone time. Find a picturesque spot to eat.

  Solo rider here. If I had wanted to go out with other people  I would have bought a mini bus not a motorbike.

  got an adventure bike and ride the rural gravel roads alone - no traffic, pull over and listen to nature occasionally

  Riding alone is not about isolation, it is about clarity. There is something about the road that strips everything down and forces you to be present in a way nothing else does. No audience, no noise, just you and the machine.

  In 1992 my mother passed.  I was in college.  I bought a motorcycle--not a beginner bike.  I bought a V45 Magna.  I learned to ride on my own, by experimentation and watching others.  One day, between semesters, I was feeling down about my solitude.  I loaded a thermos of tea, a couple peanut butter sandwiches and a bed roll onto the magna and rode all over the West.  I went to the grand canyon.  I rode through the hot Mojave.  I did repairs on the roadside.  I slept on the ground.  It was something.  Quite a memory!  When school started up again, I made an appointment with the free psychotherapist clinic at college.  I asked, "Why do I always choose to be alone?"  I got no answers from the counsellor.  She laughed at me.  I finally decided that's just the way it is.  I've since married, had children and a career.  As a retired person, I still cherish my alone time.  I still ride, usually solo.
