  Tips for your chain from the ATV world.<br><br>Before you go.<br>Remove the chain and clean it. <br><br>Make a soak tank with a paraffin/gear oil mix. Basically take a metal can big enough to hold your chain +2&quot; depth. Working outside you want to fill the can 1/2 to 3/4 full with 80/90w gear oil, and heat it. You don&apos;t want it to boil, but it needs to be hot enough to melt paraffin wax. <br>Start adding Paraffin until it&apos;s solid at slightly over room temp. I haven&apos;t made a new batch for 30 years so my amounts could be way off, but start with 50/50 by weight. You kinda want a can you can put a lid on because you&apos;re going to use this mixture for a long time. The mixture is flammable, if you&apos;re using open flame (I always use a camp stove) be VERY careful, and have either an ABC extinguisher, or fire blanket. A taller than needed can is a very good idea. I use a gallon paint can with about 3-4&quot; of mix. When the can gets low add a cup of oil, and a pack of paraffin, adjust as needed. Long pants and long sleaves are an outstanding idea, same with shoes that will protect you from a splash. <br><br>Once your lube bath is made, and your chain is clean, get the mix hot, and soak the chain in it for 15 min or so. Take the chain out of the bath and hang it above the can with the heat off. Once everything has cooled, put it back on the Bike/Kart. <br><br>After you get back, remove the chain and wash in fresh water. DO this the same day, hosing it off on the way home is also a good idea. Soak the chain in warm WD40, I heat it until I can just keep my hands in it. 10-20 min is fine. Then do a 15 min soak in the hot lube mix.<br><br>I did this for 15+ years on my atv, running it in the surf several times through the summer. The immediate fresh rinse is very important. The WD40, and lube mix sometimes waited for a trip or two depending on how much use it had since the last lube dip. I ran the same chain for at least a decade of steady use. You&apos;ll probably find other things to soak in the mix, I use a brush to paint it onto bicycle chain, ratchets or plyers that got wet like it too. <br><br>Supplies.<br>2 new/clean metal gallon/4lt paint cans.<br>1lt WD40<br>1lt 80/90 gear oil<br>2lbs of paraffin wax<br>Outdoor heating device, hot plate or camp stove will do.<br>Wire to hang the chain. <br><br>Last note, I&apos;ve never done this to motorcycle o-ring chain. I don&apos;t know what it might do to the o-rings.

  Enjoyed that Jim, I&apos;ve got much more than cleaning to do on the Rat, I may even scrap it and use the running gear on a new one, contemplating ?

  I like the aluminum chasis, I gave it considerable consideration but my TIG welding skills are not very good. Thanks for being the point man on bonded an rivited construction, are you using pull type hollow or solid aircraft style rivirs?

  hi Jim - is the chassis completely riveted? Any welding at all?
