  The ocean is dark, can crush a submarine like a beer can before you reach anywhere near the bottom, you can&apos;t breathe without assistance, and we haven&apos;t even scratched the surface of the types of sea life that call it&apos;s depths home. Sharks are the least of our problems, lol.

  Thalassophobia is like the inverse of acrophobia…where the latter is the fear of you meeting the ground, and the former is the fear of the “ground” meeting YOU.

  Speaking as an Maltese living on an island smack dab in the middle of the Mediterranean, Thalassophobia has always been more of a concept as whilst always respected the sea, it was never true horror. But games like this and Dredge helpfully remind me why that fear is beyond valid and why the sea deserves respect.

  Thalassophobia is perfectly reasonable.<br><br>From the moment our species first drew breath outside her embrace, the ocean decided she wanted to kill us for not loving her as the aquatic animals do.<br><br>And she does, easily and often. She always tries to when we enter her embrace a little too far. We we get a little too bold.

  As a Marine Biologist who became one first because of a love of sharks as a kid and then later due to a deep (pun intended) love of the abyssal and benthic regions of the ocean I find it fascinating how many folks are genuinely terrified of the sea!
