  I fully Beleive Mrs. Columbo is a real person, but also that Columbo employs her as a tool to help make suspects more comfortable. in a way theres 2 Mrs. Columbos, the one Columbo will talk about when he is in casual conversation with random people (who is a real person) and the Mrs. Columbo he will employ as a tool when investigating (who is not). these two will blur together and are not really two wholly distinct entities,

  At the end of &quot;Troubled Waters&quot; the ship&apos;s purser claims, &quot;She was just looking for you.&quot; There, Mrs. Columbo exists. Another character interacted with her.

  Columbo has no onscreen private life simply because, despite the show being named after him, he is not the protagonist. A protagonist is someone whom the story is about, whose story we follow. That is always the murderer, so we learn about the murderer&apos;s private life. Columbo is technically the ANTagonist, for whom little to no private details need be shown.

  I literally watched Troubled Waters just last night. &nbsp;It&apos;s the clearest notice that she actually really exists (so far), but I still 100% believe that at least half of the &quot;my wife&quot; references are still just Columbo being a good detective. &nbsp;It makes sense that he&apos;d use what&apos;s familiar to build any fictions he needs to invent to do his job.

  I don&apos;t understand why this is considered a debate unless people didn&apos;t see Troubled Waters and Identity Crisis . Also, it was common practice for married men in America not to wear wedding rings when I was a kid, I was born in the 60s.

  The closest we ever got to seeing Columbo&apos;s family was in &quot;No Time to Die&quot; (Season 10, Episode 5). Columbo is attending the wedding of his nephew, an LAPD detective, only for the bride to be kidnapped. This was part of the 1990s Columbo era, and not one of the best episodes, but it&apos;s as close as we&apos;ll ever get to actually seeing his family. &nbsp;I&apos;m really enjoying your videos! Great job on this one!

  Back then, <i>many</i> men didn&apos;t wear a wedding ring. My father didn&apos;t, his <i>many</i> brothers didn&apos;t, and my stepfather didn&apos;t. It wasn&apos;t a thing for a married man to have one. My father, stepfather and my grandfathers&apos; many brothers were electronic and mechanical engineers, so rings were actually either forbidden or just not a good idea to wear.

  I always believed she existed but i also believe that some if not most of the stories are made up, used as a tool.
