I put a sweet potato in a hanging pot. It is now my “mother” sweet potato. I have had her for 3 years now. I trim her in spring for slips and eat the greens during the winter.

Pesto can be made with half carrot greens and half basil, cannellini beans substituted for pine nuts, olive oil, Parmesan and garlic. The beans and carrot greens are a substitute for the pine nuts in flavor and texture.

I laugh in Canadian zone 3 whenever people talk about succession planting. We get one shot. Ok, maybe lettuce and radish. I wish I could experiment more but there’s no time sadly. If I find something I can grow, all my energy goes into that thing. Although, I’ve tried and failed more than I’m willing to admit to grow butternut squash. I’ve changed locations every year because of it. THIS IS THE YEAR BABY! 🤞🏻😬🤞🏻

For the bigger zucchini (or courgettes as we call them in the U.K.), my lovely mum in law told me about this method of cooking them years ago and it’s absolutely delicious. The tougher skins helps them keep their shape in the dish so you don’t end up with mush. Delicious mush, but still mush 😉.

Basically, slice the zucchini thinly, so about 1/4 inch or 5mm thin.
Place a layer in the bottom of an ovenproof dish, then put sliced onions and garlic over the top. Pour half a tin of chopped tomatoes (or use tomato sauce if you have it already made, you can also use red sauce with ground meat in it as well) over the onions, add fresh basil and salt to taste, then repeat the layers until you’ve filled the dish. Top with as much grated cheese as you can humanly eat, add some fresh ground black pepper, chuck in the oven on a medium heat (180 degrees C or 350F) for about 30 minutes (check at 20 minutes and use a skewer or sharp knife to check whether the zucchini at the bottom are done) or until the cheese is well browned and crispy, then serve as a side or a main. I live on this during the summer, it’s so quick and easy and has all my favourite flavours. You can dress it up with whatever additions you like in terms of herbs and spices - it’s great with fresh chillies and kidney beans in the tomatoes as well for a little kick.

Great video, lovely to see you looking so well and to see little Alexander growing up big and strong ❤️

When my compost buckets are full I dump them into the lazy no turn compost stall. Then I put some soil in the smelly buckets, cover and shake, dumping that soil on top of the compost pile. The buckets are now coated with soil and less smelly. 😊
