One important thing about the truckster that you forgot to mention is, if you watch the TV show married with children, in the beginning of the show on the highway scenes in Chicago, you'll see the truckster. For some reason they used footage of the highway from this movie. The very beginning of the show look carefully and you'll see the truckster.

We played this at our theatre back in its first release. The summer of '83 had been one of hits and misses. VACATION was an August release, which, in those days, meant lower expectations. Nobody could believe the numbers, though, and audiences couldn't have been happier. We right away it would be a classic. Audiences enjoyed the European sequel, too, but it didn't become the essential classic as either the original or the Christmas version. I still have an original poster and a press kit from the first one. And great memories playing it in our theatre.
