Why I use the word “expat”<br>In Thailand, foreigners are stamped “Non-Immigrant” in their passport. That means you must check in every 90 days, can’t work in jobs reserved for Thais, can’t own land, and can be deported (and banned for 5–10 years) if caught working without a permit. So while I’d love to call myself an immigrant, legally we’re not — hence the word expat.<br><br>2. What I do for a living<br>I run a health foods company here in Thailand and have a work permit that covers all YouTube activities. I’ve paid tax in Thailand for over 10 years — through my own companies (an English school and a jazz lounge), as well as during my career in the 5-star hotel industry (Anantara). And yes — I speak Thai.<br><br>3. Can foreigners own land in Thailand?<br>No. But a superficies agreement allows you to control the land for 30+ years, and houses here are relatively affordable (1–2 million THB). If you have children, owning a home is essential for their security. Still, it’s smart to keep around 80% of your net worth in high-performance assets (like BTC) outside Thailand.<br><br>4. About my wife<br>We’ve been together 12 years of my 15+ years in Thailand. She’s a finance graduate, hardworking, traditional, and loyal — she earned more and owned more property than me when we met, and she’s stood by me through both success and struggle.<br><br>5.   I had been giving my Thai wife $400 a month to send back to Isaan. As a test—and to reassure myself that our relationship wasn’t transactional—I paused the payments for a few months. We are now divorced.

  She gives him love, a companion. She takes care of him, provides for all his needs. He could be abroad paying a lot for rent, and paying for a caregiver which would be much more..<br>The bottom line is he is happy, they are happy together and that is the best we can ask for in this life. And I commend the way he wants to ensure she is cared for the same way she cares for him.<br>I would take that over a lonely life in the cold any day.

  I&apos;ve just begun watching a few of your videos - maybe 4 or 5 or 6?<br>What strikes me most is your humanity. How you interact with people,<br>showing real curiosity, and treating these folks with the dignity they deserve.<br>Logistics and budget are crucial of course.   I like the way Tony handles finances. I say the same to my wife. The money I give her is hers to use however she wants. She never needs to ask me if she can buy something, order online, or anything like that. She can spend it on her family if she wants. I don’t care where the money goes. From the moment I give it to her, it’s hers.<br><br>As long as I also have enough for myself, and she doesn’t complain about me buying my own things, we’re good. I love VR and have some good computers, for example.
