Rounding to $550K. That's roughly $1833/month for 25 years. Still way cheaper than anywhere in California for everything included.

As a long term Expat, (25 years+) having watched this video I would strongly suggest anyone thinking of moving to Thailand comes and stays for a long term holiday first and works out the real costs of retirement over here. Don't come here with "rose tinted spectacles on", dig deeper, much deeper 🙏. Just remember 99% of foreigners in Thailand end up going home, ask yourself why? I'm sure some will immediately think I am being negative, but I am not, it's called experience. Wishing everyone all the best 🙏

Excellent summary, as usual, Gregor

Just one note on annuities:

I have 2, from reputable institutions in the US.

One annuity is a 10-year pay-out. The other is lifetime.

The monthly amounts can fluctuate (up or down) -- not a lot, but they are not necessarily constant throughout the year...

...unlike the US Social Security monthly payment, which is constant, after the annual COLA adjustment.

So, read the fine print, folks.

I would say the monthly budget is for those who are frugal and/or disciplined with money. Most people I would say would need 25-40% more, especially for their first year, while they learn how and where to save money

Lol. I'm 55, sitting in my cubicle working, just divorced last week. To quote the lord of the rings... "How did it come to this?"

Spot on about "lifestyle creep!" We often start with a budget mindset but eventually want better condos or Western food. Your tip about living in places like Chiang Mai or Hua Hin to slash costs is very practical advice. ❤

The most important thing is getting medical insurance. Especially at if you are retiring at the age of 50, Once you hit 60 that insurance cost is huge and even more if you don't have and need medical care. But one thing for sure it is cheaper than living in the United States.
