  People usually retiring with that much income from pensions which is easy to live on here in Thailand 🇹🇭 also usually have large savings, you can easily work out the drawdown on those if you are spending some of it as well as your pension. I retired at 50 here, so no pension yet , easy to live cheaply with a wife and family and a farm ….

  Unfortunately what many don&apos;t talk about is if you become seriously or chronically ill, you can&apos;t get insurance. Insurance policies also have age ceilings. My strong advice is to maintain a footprint in Australia so you can return if and when you have to.

  This was a nice balanced video. I lived in Thailand on and off for 7 years then fulltime for 13 years. For the last 3 years, I have lived in Portugal. I would say that this is one of the more &apos;down to earth&apos; cost of living videos that I have seen. Two ideas stand out. First, setting up always is a budget buster so expect that your first couple of months may well be double your longer term average. Second, emergencies will inevitably occur. Having a substantial reserve fund is essential. That reserve should be in place from day 1 and it should be steadily built up over time. The simple fact is that the older one becomes, the more emergencies occur. Finally, one additional backup is important. Make an emergency medical plan before you need it. What that means is check out your local area and find out a good local doctor who speaks English, who you trust, and who can plug you into the wider system if you have a major problem. You don&apos;t want to become severely ill and have to figure out the medical system.

  I am thinking about this is a slightly different way now so thanks for all that info. I’ve always thought about retiring early but saw it as an end point and now I’m seeing it as a possible mid point, or a bridging option to get me to retirement age. I’ve been a corporate slave for 40 years but still too young to retire and too experienced/senior to change fields. I’m thinking about taking a few years off and living overseas until my grown up kids leave and I can sell my house and move to my farm full time and live on my super. I could happily live minimally for three or four years as with that comes minimal stress. All I need is a card club, some stray dogs and cats to look after and I’d be happy! Thanks this looks doable.
