  Been to the battlefield. Met an old Zulu guy who turned up with a spear, club and shield and (for a small fee) demonstrated how they were used on a person such as myself. Only slightly alarming having a shield pushed (albeit slowly and carefully) in your face and then a quite sharp spear jabbed towards your groin, belly, chest and neck! I hoped he wasn't going to have some sort of ancestral flashback and think he was back in 1879! The thing is, being Scottish and of partial Highland descent, I was very much reminded of how the Highlanders used similar fighting techniques.

  great video, Zulu dawn is one of the most underrated war films ever,it's brilliant 👍

  Thanks for an excellent breakdown, always enjoyed Zulu Dawn and the sheer scale of the effort to recreate the battle scenes before CGI was a thing, imo it makes it look far more authentic

  Great film. Really added levels to the conflict you didn't get in Zulu. Bob Hoskins was the CSM we all remember

  My dad made me and my mum see Zulu Dawn in London, when it came out in 1979, .......the comic Tom O Connor was at the bar.

  I&apos;ve always enjoyed this movie, but it&apos;s great to see a breakdown of what is and isn&apos;t accurate.

  This was exceptional Chris. I agree, Melvill and Coghill should never have been awarded VC&apos;s. It is possible that they were given to show light in the disaster. Braver men that died fighting were awarded &nbsp;nothing, whilst these two were clearly in retreat. Thanks for this amazing analysis.
