I did a 4 week bus tour to New Zealand in '86. Went from 90-mile beach, down to Auckland, Rotorua, Wellington, across the strait to Nelson, Queenstown, Milford Sound, Dunedin, ending up in Christchurch. Absolutely amazing. Fabulous scenery, amazing people. Went back for a shorter time (9 days in '16) and did just the highlights. Still amazing. Did Egypt in '83--highlights only, Cairo, Luxor, Aswan/Abu Simbel. Fantastic. Circumnavigating Iceland next year.

My aunt and uncle have done a two week walking tour in the UK for the last decade. Different paths and a couple different companies. They think it’s great. Just walking and seeing the country. As you mentioned everything is taken care of for moving luggage, lodging, and food. They are now 75 years old. It’s kept them young.

    New Zealand Tips:
1. Hobbiton is EXACTLY as nerdy and peaceful as it needs to be (I'm also a big fan). 100% worth the trip, and I highly recommend the splurge to eat dinner on-site.
2. Milford Sound is worth all the hype and more. My wife and I still feel staying in Te Anau is the right move versus the hundreds of people who board a 10-hour (round trip) bus ride from Queenstown.
3. Mt. Cook is amazing, but it's the Hallstatt of New Zealand. In other words, overnight close (like in the dark sky reserve of Lake Tekapo) and arrive early in the morning! The main hike is very doable with small children.

Love the videos, Nik!

We drove the ring road in Iceland a few years ago, and it's still one of the best trips we've ever taken.

8 days is plenty for Egypt...including the 4 day cruise. But you have to use a reputable tour operator to increase efficiency and ensure safety. We did it in '25 and had a personal driver and guide when not on the boat segment. Very affordable and highly recommended!

I went to Iceland last month, and because I don't drive, I based myself mostly in Reykjavík, from where I booked several day excursions to the more remote areas, which included a full-day trip to the Snæfellsness Peninsula to see the Solar Eclipse; unfortunately, that was clouded out, but the mainly overcast skies provided the perfect lighting conditions for photographing the spectacular scenery, which included two Game Of Thrones settings. I've just started thinking of travelling to see a dark sky preserve south of the equator, and New Zealand is definitely under consideration, so I'll see where my thoughts take me on that. Safe and happy travels everyone!

People who go to Egypt usually say they don’t want to go back at all.

A tricky one if you haven't already done it, is Israel. It is a life changing trip if done correctly. Our trip was hosted through the Jerusalem University College. Our tour guide was a young lady with a Phd in Biblical Geography. Not your run of the mill tour guide

Seven in seven days sounds insane for a Dad with 2 young girls who depends on him.

We went to Egypt for our 20th anniversary. We didn’t do the Nike cruise cuz I’m terribly seasick but we didn’t got to Luxor. We did not care for the busyness of Cairo but loved Luxor. We wished we had spent more time there. The balloon ride was great. We also loved Alexandria and wished we had longer there. We also had private guides during our entire stay. We were there about 10 days. It was one of the most memorable trips ever! We went to an essential oil place where a Sufi gave us recommendations. We also crashed a wedding reception with our guide.

I was just in Albania two weeks ago. I went to Skopje and Theth. Absolutely loved Skopje! One of the best cities I’ve been to in the world with beautiful cobblestone streets and a fortress. Theth had stunning mountains but I went during the hottest time of year. I couldn’t enjoy my hikes because of the heat.
