  I think people are getting too comfortable with these bridgeless, 2 min, generic tiktok songs...thats the problem. They keep trying to crown these new artists and compare them to artists who have been around for DECADES. Longevity vs one hit

  Icon? Mariah Carey is undoubtedly in a league of very few legends. People claim to love Whitney but considering how they treated her when her voice deteriorated before social media was fully established, they would be tearing her down and discrediting her just as much, if not worse if she was still alive. Mind you, she isn’t a songwriter or producer like Mariah so they would completely invalidate her artistry too.

  Just adding one more point, Mottola tried to tear Mariah down for years after she gained her freedom! Throughout the 2000s, the media made a point of highlighting the negative side of Mariah—like that striptease that wasn't even a striptease, or the Glitter album flop, which failed for very specific reasons. This 'demonization' of Mariah caused the public to perceive her in a distorted way. Even today, there are people who despise her and can't even explain the reason for that hatred.

  There's also a common misconception that a lot of her songs are covers, like quite a few people think All I Want for Christmas is NOT her original song.

  Her persona might be “diva”, but her vulnerability is very well represented in her artistry, songwriting and in her memoir. Shes endured so much abuse from people that should have been protecting her. Yet, the general public feels like they need to “humble” and undermine her decades success. Regardless of her vocal decline or her lack of energy on stage these days, nobody is touching her legacy.
