  i fear the scrolling “free shipping for every purchase over x amount of money” thing is just also a remnant of old tumblr html coding<br> <br>some of my favourite alternative or niche webstores also use that generously, one even has the “buy 5 things and get a discount, 10 things for a bigger discount” <br>and i know they are legit and not scam because ive been a repeat customer there <br><br>it feel similar to the genAI issue where the evil thing was trained on the internet and now replicates things commonly used, which now make people think its always a sign of AI, like the em-dash or the “its not x, its y” structures

  I appreciate you reminding people to not make fun of those who fall for scams. Shaming someone for being scammed will only make them less likely to reach out for help should they fall for dangerous scams. Keeping the scam to themselves is how people end up getting getting blackmailed, or loosing huge sums of money. Most people are not internet or scam literate, either due to age, lifestyle, or disability. Have compassion with those who don’t have the knowledge you do.

  Thank you for mentioning that no one is immune to scams. And to anyone reading this, they might seem obvious to you but that’s only because you know what to look for. And one day there might be a scam you do fall for that other people wouldn’t because you didn’t realise. If you think you’re immune to scams, you’re not, you’re actually more vulnerable because you’re too confident. Be kind to others, have some empathy.

  I love living in the current age, where it’s almost impossible to tell if something is a scam or not! My eyes aren’t great, my phone screen is small, I bet I’ll fall for one of these any day now.
