One of my favorite presentations on a guy who I knew nothing about. Love his work. I’m going to look for this book. I’m curious about what he wrote about. What a name. Hard to believe there’s no book about him.

Il est triste de voir que ces merveilleux artistes d'un talent et d'une technique supérieure, sont considérés comme de simples imitateurs des maîtres du grand siécle alors même qu'on trouve plus de variété dans la touche et le dessin chez les peintres pompiers que chez les peintres des siécles précédents, particuliërement dans le genre du portrait ou de la peinture d'histoire qui présente des figures d'un dynamisme extrême. Souvent considérés comme des petits maîtres, ils méritent, selon leur place au panthéon de l'art classique.
