Is it weird that I deliberately exclude my house from net worth calculation? My thought is I plan on living in the house which means it isn't funding my future.

Dry nice post. The turn for me was in 1965 when as a tenth grader I discovered compound interest. I started saving then. First in a savings account. Soon I discovered a mutual fund (Twentieth Century Select) and invested regularly. His continued until John Bogle invented the index fund and all new money went into the total market and growth funds. You know the punch line.

What gets me is that two people can earn exactly the same amount of money and have completely different lives because of what sits behind that income. One owns something, has flexibility and can step away. The other has to keep showing up every morning or

So I did nothing but large caps and some ESOPs and little in small, but I auto-balance every year. I was able to be as good as your single stock guys. Key was starting at 22 years old starting contributions 12% and increasing that every raise. Mainly 401k and brokerage

Thank you for your insights, you did not mention that there is a loophole on the estate tax for the surviving spouse. Would like to hear more about that loophole. Ultra high net worth individuals should try and convert all of their IRA money into a ROTH as the IRA will be double taxed. Once by the estate tax and then again the beneficiary will also have to pay income tax. Your demeanor and knowledge are amazing. Please keep up the fantastic videos.

Remember with the estate tax, it is often a single person's estate and therefore single person exemptions. Couples rarely die together or in the same year.

Lol. you said Nike stock. . . .

I have over $5m investable and didn't own a business, didn't have company stock in my 401k (I did receive company stock as compensation but always sold it quickly outside of the 1x my salary I was required to hold (Enron dude), and did not have an ESOP. I basically just maxed my 401k and investments each year over 25 yrs. and I was aggressive in my savings by holding very little in bonds (less than 2%). I am 55 and just retired.

The explosion of ETFs in various flavors such as BDCs, REITs, covered call ETFs, sector specific funds, etc have largely equalized regular investors vs qualified investors.

ESOP here 20 years in. Best thing that I did was joining a growing company with a very healthy ESOP
