  Notice the bullet hole on the silver hairpin at the end when Lolan trades it. This implies that the hairpin that Maomao gave Lolan also saved her life.

  I was so disappointed that season 2 had so many filler eipsodes until i got to the end and realised none of it was. I picked up on none of those subtleties and i need to rewatch for sure

  The concubine who faked her insomnia and deliberately failed to impress the emperor, and ws gifted to the general was a very nice big foreshadowing of what happened to Shenmei later:<br>A concubine who never truly won the emperors attention or affection, being neglected and (possibly in the latest case) scorned by others for it, who was eventually passed out as a prize for a service to the empire. <br>Only difference is that Shenmei valued power over love, but the young woman favored lover over power. It set up the system of concubines being things rather than people.

  This helped me realize why the color blindness was brought up! Loulan being color blind would make her a valuable asset to the emperor’s test, thus the bloodline could be continued with the emperor if this gains Loulan favor. However she made sure she never carried the emperor’s child and would not have a chance of carrying the crown Prince.

  It was a doctor who had a crush on Suirei not an apothecary. Apothecaries don’t do autopsies.

  The escape route Suirei takes Maomao and Shisui through only exists because &nbsp;Shishou had it constructed so he could visit Shenmei at her pavilion - the garnet pavilion. With Loulan coming of age and Shishou as Prime Minister he pushed the emperor to remove Ah Duo and replace her with his daughter to set into motion Shenmei&apos;s plans of the Shi clan gaining control over the dynasty (which is why out of sheer desperation Ah Duo&apos;s ladies in waiting assisted Fengming in attempting to kill Lishu so Ah Duo could stay in the inner court, this was for naught of course). <br>Shishou was highly regarded by the Empress Regnant - aka the former emperor&apos;s mother and arguably true ruler - so while Shenmei was unknowingly a hostage while the Shi clan slave trade to other countries was elimenated, it was Shishou who suggested that slaves be hidden as members of the inner court before being sold as well as massively expanding the inner court to help supply the former emperor with young girls. Later, slavery would be abolished but the now older victims of the former emperor would be forbidden from leaving the inner court - hence the forgotten graveyard and medic maids being much older than normal palace maids. <br>Tldr: Everything is Shishou and the previous emperor&apos;s fault, as their poor handling of Shenmei (who thought she would easily become empress) and Taihou (who deserved better, and was the lady who told scary stories every year including the year she died as a ghost) caused so much resentment and rage that it almost got everyone killed

  It&apos;s not just these two seasons the Shi conspiracy and suppression affects. &nbsp;Going by the later volumes of the light novels, the repercussions and reverberations from this event is going to be felt <b>long</b> after the clan&apos;s destruction.

  Taihou&apos;s daughter-the abandoned princess was banished from the rear palace with another doctor who wasn&apos;t Luomen. He was Suirei&apos;s apothecary master. Luomen was banished for a different reason- the death of Anshi&apos;s son (who was swapped and raised by Ah-Duo).
