3:40 my favourite response to that is "No, boys will be held responsible for their actions like everyone else". Shuts them up every time.

at every single holiday with my dad's side of the family, all the women help clean up after dinner while the men drink around the table. and this is across three generations - my grandparents, my parents', and mine. once my brother became old enough, my mom made my brother help us clean. she was the only one of their generation to make their son help and everyone always gave her shit for it, especially my grandma. but no one ever once said anything about the girls being required to help. when i tried to sit with the men, i got yelled at and called ungrateful.

I’m the youngest of 4 and the only girl. I feel like people always talk about how parents get less strict with each kid, and that might have been true for my brothers. But I was watched like a HAWK in a way they never were and held to completely different standards. And I wouldn’t even say my mom is a “boy mom” it’s just so normalized to be lax with your boys and damn near be a prison warden to your daughters it’s so weird

you forgot a huge reason this phrase has come about. Kobe Bryant!!

he called himself a “girl dad” and spoke about how much he loved them. people always asked him if he preferred sons, so he did this to show he loves his daughter as much as he’d love a son. which the media was quite rude about.

then in retaliation this weird incestuous trend popped up.

I’m no longer in contact with my dad, but I remember growing up everything would be my mums responsibility. One time she slipped a disc in her back and couldn’t move and NO JOKE my dad came to 13 year old me and asked what I was making for dinner

Yeah, I'm a "boy mom" in the sense that I am a mother to two boys, but that's where I draw the line. Those moms need CPS or something looking into them because that behavior is not normal 🤮

It’s even weirder when you KNOW that if a father behaved this way with his daughter, he’d be clowned into oblivion. But because the roles are reversed, it’s fine?😭 both deserve the hate IMO

11:11 I just wanted to add here, if there aren’t any daughters the sons don’t typically divide care amongst each other, the care would fall to their wives and girlfriends instead.

I'm a healhcare worker. Most sons are useless when it comes to taking care of their aging parents. It's always the daughters that take on the responsibility. When the parents only have sons, they accept the reality and just take care of themselves.

Junko’s case is so morbid. As horrific as it was, I would encourage people to look it up, it really depicts the way we’ve let down our daughters and sons in society whilst upholding patriarchal behaviors/beliefs and all.

The caregiver thing is so real.
My mom battled cancer for 6 years. My sister and I were the main caretakers. My brother's excuses were that they had their own families to take care of and worry about. I was in high school and college. I had to give up so much just to be the caretaker. they did jack! and when she was on hospice for 3 weeks, only then did they sort if step up.

I no longer have a relationship with my father because he would use the excuse "boys will be boys" when I'd express discomfort in my step brother's treatment of me. It got to the point of a few years into the marriage, I stopped talking to my step brother completely and started the silent treatment. My father thought it was funny but that was my only other way to cry out for help. This went on since I was around ten years old til I moved out and never saw him again. My father married a "boy's mom" who quite literally said to my face "I will always choose my son over you." My step brother never had any chores or boundaries to follow. He was given everything he asked for. They paid for his college, his cars, his housing. Remodeled his bedroom, got multiple pets he neglected, on and on. I was not given any of these things. There was no support or honestly love for me. I feel awful for whoever he marries if he ever even gets that far. Dude doesn't even know how to do his own laundry or cook. Sits around all day playing videos games. Never worked in customer service. I actually can't think of any good qualities about him and it's because he was raised with no discipline or morals.
