  I met Paul in 1975 at the Guitar Study Center which was run by his brother Eddie. Paul dropped in on the class I was in and sat right next to me. He asked if he could play my guitar. I of course said yes. It was a Madeira my father had bought for me at a pawn shop on 3rd Ave and 11th street in Manhattan. Paul was very soft spoken, laid back and very nice. He was writing a new song and played it for us. It was 50 ways to leave your lover. I was only 22 years old.

  What I love about listening to Simon and Garfunkel is knowing that if you isolate the vocals they miss so many notes, but when you put both of them together the harmonies work.  It's a musical miracle everytime.

  Art had one of the most incredible voices ever, but he was an interpreter of lyrics and Paul was the genius who created those. I think they were much better together than apart, I love their later work too, it’s a pity they couldn’t control their insecurities.

  I would disagree that Garfunkel was the featured vocalist.  Certainly he was on some songs, but I would say that on most of their songs Paul sang the melody and Art harmonized with him.  It's a shame they both had jealousies of the other, they made such beautiful work together.

  I loved the duo. And then Paul Simon went on to an exciting and musically very interesting solo career that, personally, I liked even more - and that's the music I still listen to. He needed to go to different places musically. It's not really complicated.

  Simon is the genius, Garfunkel is a fundamental half of a genius vocal blend and utterly owns Bridge Over Troubled Water. Both together are the great miracle of the story, of course.
