  This is devastating. I’m South African, and I can’t tell you how many beautifully built public buildings and schools are abandoned, decaying in the same way. I know the anger. I know that pain of watching your home decline. It’s crazy how similar life can be across continents. I feel a kind of kinship.

  North STL has only gotten worse since the tornado this year. Entire blocks were levelled and displaced hundreds of people

  I think this is a reupload , but I can’t believe this issue made it on Vice. These castle like schools are all over STL city , beautiful architecture too. Some have been turned into apartments but man oh man

  As a former resident of St. Louis, born and raised, now living in the west of New Mexico, this made me so sad to see. Perhaps, one day, St. Louis will recover. I hope so, and, in a way, I regret leaving when the last thing that beleaguered city needed was more people leaving.

  I called to inquire about Clevealnd High about ten years ago,and they wanted two million for the building.I wanted to repurpose it  and make it affordable housing.But I couldn't find any investors.

  <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=75N2_fDEPJs&amp;t=244">4:04</a>. OMFG!!! I attended CVPA from 1993-1997 (c/o &apos;97). I took my senior photo with my class on those front steps (which I still own)!! I knew that CVPA had relocated to a different area in the city (from north to south side), but I never knew that the building was in a state of deterioration. As they tour the building, it&apos;s mind blowing what I&apos;m seeing because I remember everything. It sort of breaks my heart, you know? I moved from the city to county in the late 90&apos;s, but it&apos;s troubling for me to discover that practically every public school I&apos;ve attended as a youngster is no longer functional. Wanna know what&apos;s REALLY crazy? I literally have recurring dreams about a few of those schools. It&apos;s that deeply embedded in my psyche. 💔

  Cleveland was far from creepy when I attended. It for sure helped shape the man I am today.

  My husband and I drove by Cleveland High about a week ago and noticed someone’s doing renovations on the building, so it’s appears they’ve found a purpose for the castle. It’s always saddened me, even as a young person, when I see the beautiful architecture of St. Louis being disregarded and lying in piles of rubble across the city. Buildings are thrown up in record time but you can’t reproduce the craftsmanship found in the historic homes.
