You can really see that this is the birth of dark souls. Demon souls came first but so many of the enemies are replicated from this into dark souls

Anyone after playing any From Software game: it just like Dark Souls

Deliciously high, just got a bowl of popcorn and just got this mythic tier home page pull. Life sucks but tonight, right now in this room, there is peace.

The enemy variety here is awesome, the concept of the game is totally something fromsoft could replicate again today. The enemies are really wild looking and i love it, its so unsettling. The other day i was literally thinking "why hasnt fromsoft put a labyrinth in a game yet?"

Great video!

I'm an old geezer in my 50s and I remember a lot of these OG From Software games on the PS1 and PS2. I became such a fan of this company that it would be an instant buy from me as soon as I saw the FROM label on the jewel case. They always had such a vibe to their games and I still play Otogi today on my Series S. Shadow Tower was pretty cool. Definitely an evolution of King's Field.
Check out Labyrinth of the Demon King if you haven't. Indie title with massive inspiration drawn from these games. It's actually becoming somewhat of a genre now. the "King's Field-likes"

The enemy variety is insane. Puts most modern games to shame.

This one and Nightmare creatures were great experiences as a kid. I feel lucky to find them in the wild when I was young. Knowing that some of these games were unheard of by most.

The limited draw distance and classic animation style makes this all feel like some nightmares I've had.

I'm always a sucker for decades of iteration on a set of themes and pet topics. It's awesome that video games have enough of a history that we can look back and see long-running patterns and chart some remarkable levels of change and development in the medium.

Feels like the closest thing I can imagine to growing up with 1910s cinema and getting to look back on all that from the 1960s. So cool.
