You should include a little sterno can and top to boil your water if you don't have a stove. I would also include a small but strong knife and a bic lighter.

The military uses the lowest bidder to make things. Then buy a train load of it. Military grade is not the best. In the early 80's... My ruck I was issued fell apart on a long 40 Mile ruck. But it was a Vietnam era bag. So... I may be biased.
