People just wanna sing. You’re gonna have to entertain them for the first set. By the second set and the third set, they’re ready to sing. Don’t be discouraged if you’re not singing along at 7 PM. They need three or four drink drinks in them. That’s why I put my artsy songs that no other performer does but people still wanna hear in the first set. Same with dance tunes.

What an awesome video! Thanks so much for legitimizing using a capo to suit your voice. For 95% of songs, the changed key is barely noticable. You have a great voice.

Finbar. Sending my gratitude to you from Virginia. I've been playing guitar for 6 years and never thought of myself as a singer. Songs that I like were never "in my key". I've been watching your channel for the last 4 months or so and I have learned 30+ songs because of you. You taught me how to capo and transpose!!! After 20+ Open Mics for practice, I did my 1st 2 hour solo gig on Saturday Nov 1, It was a micro brewery. I had about 30 folks attend and the audience was singing along with me!!! To top it all off, It was a paid gig!!!! From the bottom of my heart, thank you! I am now on my way to booking myself for 2026! I am 39 years of age and my goal of playing solo has been achieved.

I might have commented this before, but "What's Up" mashes up perfectly with "Don't worry, be happy". And "Don't stop believing" begs you to toy around with the rest of "4 Chords" by Axis of Awesome. "Hey, I'll just play 20 more songs, then I will take a short break and will be back later..."

Crowds in the UK probably have different favorites than in the US. The top song lists always differ by country. Not sure why but that’s how it is.

I knew I could sing (to a degree) but never to the originals! Been playing guitar for 20 years and TODAY I learned about transposing a song into MY range!! I am forever indebted to you! Just jammed out to Yellow for an hour straight! God bless you

Finbar, your worth your weight in gold! Thank you so much for the taking the time to share what your knowledge 🙏🏻 As someone who started gigging at the age of 37, overcoming many insecurities and imposter syndrome 💪. Trying tackle the methods of changing the key made my brain shut down as it wanted to understand everything, not just simply it. How you teach and explain has really made a difference to how I can process the information and take it on board! Thank again 💜

I'm a baritone like you. I've sung "Don't Stop Believin'" in G on long gigs and in A-flat when I want to put a little oompth into a performance on a shorter gig. I've also done "Livin' on a Prayer" an octave lower. I like your suggestions for song choices here and I think I'm gonna roll some of these out. Thanks for this very generous video!

After thousands of gigs myself I was curious what your top 10 was. I have a few female songs I either lower the key for or sing down the octave, but never thought of gimme gimme gimme, nice! In my experience, changing the key to be too low (ie. super comfy) doesn’t hit as hard with a singalong crowd. Totally understand the need for safety, especially if your voice is needed the next day amongst a big run of shows etc, but endurance aside, having the key in your upper chest range area sends out a bigger energy to the crowd, of which they reciprocate with at a higher level.
Nice job in helping your students out, I’ve had many similar experiences, it’s great to come across a fellow compadre in that regard from the other side of the world.
Keep it up mate 👍
