I haven't played live in 20+ years, but I have found that posting videos on my channel of me playing guitar in my bathroom scratches the "itch" of playing live. Cheap guitar, terrible voice, phone camera, half-assing my way through acoustic covers. One take, mistakes and all. No fear at all and I'm having a blast. Nice vid, subbed and hyping.

Watching your videos got me out there again at 72. Booked my 10th and 11th gig coming up. You nailed it in this one.

So many things resonated with me, I am 59, and I was so proud of myself with my rack system and 5 or six guitars and I couldn’t get through one song and never sang, and raising 2 kids I always made excuses that I never had enough time, then I get prostate cancer at 52, radical prostectomy, cancer free ever since I see the world differently now, I have been trying to build up my set list for the last 2 years, I sing and play acoustic, I barely ever touch my other guitars, I did several things to fast track, I haven’t played in gigs yet, but I have done the following, I play in front of people at my job in the court yard, I’ve played in the office in front of 12 people, I’ve learned to de sensitize myself to a point but it hasn’t totally gone away. The song that changed my life was knocking on heavens door, not because I almost died from cancer but because it was very easy to play and sing to sos that was the first song I played start to finish and I believe it it is fine to skip complex parts and totally do my own version, I think most people don’t care how hard a song is so simplifying it and just make the song recognizable with a steady tempo is key, I’m up to about 18 songs now, and best thing I ever learned was to literally try to find the simplest songs as possible that people actually want to hear, and pick the simplest chords to get through it, I’m trying to make up for so much time, the other thing that really helped me was to buy the Bose s1 PA, I plug my looper into it and it can take 3 simultaneous inputs so now I’m not figuring out gear anymore and I’m just focusing on playing, bought a good mic too, now just try to practice every day, I can’t find an open mic around here on Long Island but I’m trying to get to 45 songs that I feel over rehearsed to make the next jump, hopefully my update helped someone in the same boat

Great video Finbar I was in rock bands as a younger guy decided to try solo gigging been playing the past 12 years on cruise ships currently with Royal Caribbean .. I've travelled the world doing this and I'm gulp 66 now and have two more contracts out there for me.. I always liked just being a band member and sometimes I feel like I'm still adjusting to being a soloist even after 100s of gigs in the pubs on the ships.. You're a pro listen to this man if you want a gig!! In fact guests love it when you make mistakes it makes you human
